Poly(ethylene terephthalate), which accounts for 18% of the world’s plastic production, ranks third after polyethylene and polypropylene. Poly(ethylene terephthalate), which is one of the plastics that we encounter the most in our daily lives, and that we use the name the most, is commonly referred to with the abbreviation PET. However, the abbreviations PETE, PETP or PET-P are also used for poly(ethylene terephthalate). PET from the polyester group is a linear thermoplastic polymer and is mostly encountered in areas such as synthetic fiber, food packaging industry and especially bottling. PET materials, which are mostly shaped by thermoforming method, can be composed of pure PET polymer, or they can be reinforced with glass fiber in some applications and used as structural material in engineering applications. PET, the most important commercial polyester, was first introduced in 1944.
